During the Act II Revenant story missions in Destiny 2, you must complete the "Captive Memories" quest to progress. Although a shorter mission, you have to defeat a powerful and familiar foe from the past to move forward in your pursuit of the character Fikrul. With a complex puzzle also standing in your way, it can be easy to get stuck at different points during this quest.

The Revenant episode in Destiny 2 brings new mechanics and story content for you to explore, including missions like "Captive Memories." Finishing this quest could reward you with unique loot, but you may have to farm it multiple times to get what you want. Thankfully, this mission is much shorter than past seasonal raids for other DLC, so you should be able to farm it without problems using moderate builds.

Door Puzzle Solution
Follow The Right Sequence
When you first start "Captive Memories," your initial objective is to Escape Lockup once you enter a prison through an airlock. This comes after you speak to Variks when you go through a small cave leading to a large room with dim purple lighting. This area has a massive machine in its center, as well as several terminals marked with strange Fallen symbols that make up the area's puzzle.

Various enemies will spawn in the Lockup room the moment you enter it, including a miniboss called a Subjugator. This reflects the beginning of the "Tomb of Elders"activity in Destiny 2 you may have done before.
The doors in front of each terminal are locked by electricity, preventing you from escaping the room. By jumping up, you can see several symbols on the ground in front of the machine in a specific order. You need to interact with each terminal in the same order to disable the electricity on the doors and allow your character to escape.

Whenever you interact with the right terminal in the sequence, you'll get a message saying "The hymn resonates throughout the chamber." Activating the wrong terminal will give you "The hymn fades" as a message instead. Interact with the doors in the following order to solve the puzzle:
- Front Door - directly behind the symbols on the floor
- Right Door - right from the symbols
- Right Door
- Left Door - left from the symbols
- Back Door - across from the machine behind the symbols
Once the puzzle is completed, go through the Back Door and follow your quest marker to continue the mission. The next sections of "Captive Memories" are combat encounters that introduce a new feature in Destiny 2 named "Devouring Essence." Similar to raids, you'll want to learn what this mechanic does before you rush into a fight.
How To Beat The Abomination Boss
Destroy The Barrier Protecting Your Enemy

Following the path out of the puzzle room will lead you to a combat encounter against The Abomination, another mini-boss in this mission. "Devouring Essence" is applied to your character the moment this starts, killing you instantly after 43 seconds have passed. There are ways to cancel or reset this timer, but not in the ways you might think.
The Abomination, also known as the Revenant Baron, is immune to all damage when you start the fight. However, you can disable the mini-boss's immunity by defeating its three High Revenant Elite enemies scattered throughout the boss arena. Destroying the Abomination's protection immediately makes it vulnerable, allowing you to kill it quickly with a barrage of your best weapons.
Killing a High Revenant protecting the Abomination will reset the timer on the "Devouring Essence" debuff, giving you more time to take out another one and reset the timer again.

Going forward from the Abomination will lead you further into the caves underneath the first Lockup area. From here, you'll have to fight some more enemies along the way, including another Subjugator mini-boss. Continue following your quest marker and claim whatever loot you can get from these encounters, as you may get lucky with a seasonal Exotic in Destiny 2.
How To Beat Skolas
Defeat A Reborn Opponent
The final arena you arrive in during the "Captive Memories" quest will see the resurrection of Skolas, the Fallen Kell from Destiny's House of Wolves expansion back in 2015. This former boss has come back with a vengeance, seeking to once again eliminate your Guardian with renewed aggression. Skolas has a lot of health, making them a tougher enemy than the Abomination to take down.

Destiny 2 has had ten years of expansions that helped craft this beloved sci-fi looter-shooter, but each one now has a spot in the hierarchy.
Skolas' fight also features two small, raid-like mechanics. You are not allowed to respawn freely against Skolas, limiting how reckless you can be throughout the encounter. In addition, Skolas will try to activate devices called Splinter Mines throughout the arena. If Skolas manages to detonate a Splinter Mine, the entire place explodes, taking you out automatically and forcing you to start the fight over.
Some of the best strategies for fighting Skolas include:
- Stand Under Splinter Mines To Disable Them
- Defeat Skolas' Minions Quickly
- Continue Dealing Damage To Skolas Whenever Possible

Standing in the large, white circular spaces under Splinter Mines will eventually deactivate them. Skolas will attempt to detonate one when they reach around 60% health, so make sure to focus on this quickly as you keep pressuring the Fallen Kell. When Skolas reaches around half health, they will become immune to all damage and apply the "Devouring Essence" debuff to you in the same way as The Abomination did.
The solution here is the same as in the Abomination fight, as you need to destroy the High Revenants in the arena to disable Skolas' immunity barrier. Defeating High Revenants will reset your debuff timer, which is still 43 seconds before you die instantly. Once Skolas' immortality is disabled, they will try to activate another Splinter Mine at around 10% health, which can be disarmed through your previous method.

Keep putting up the pressure against Skolas throughout this fight to tear through the boss' enormous health bar. As long as you keep minions from hurting you, disable Splinter Mines, and take out High Revenants fast, you should have no trouble winning this battle. A brief bit of dialogue from Variks and Mithrax will end the "Captive Memories" mission in Destiny 2, allowing you to continue the Episode: Revenant Act 2 storyline.
